The 35-year-old Serb moved up four places to edge Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who missed the tournament through injury and dropped to second place.

Djokovic’s 10th Australian Open title means he is world number one for the 374th week since July 2011.

Meanwhile, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, who lost to Djokovic in Sunday’s final in Melbourne, overtook Norway’s Casper Ruud for third place, equaling the career-best placing he achieved for the first time. in August 2021.

Russian Andrey Rublev, who will face Djokovic in the quarter-finals, moved up to a career-best fifth place.

Djokovic’s former rival Rafael Nadal, knocked out in the second round, had to drop four places to sixth.

Karen Khachanov’s run to the semis in Melbourne lifted the Russian seven places to 13th.

American Tommy Paul, who also reached the last four, broke into the top 20 for the first time by climbing 16 places to 19th.
