City of CNNthe Artemis II mission will take place in November 2024. The four NASA astronauts participating in the mission are Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency.

All four astronauts are over 40, with Koch being the youngest at 44. However, this space mission is not the first for the woman from Michigan, USA.

She has already completed six spacewalks and is the first woman to do so in 2019. Koch is also the record holder for the longest time a woman has spent in space at 328 days.

The opposite applies to Hansen who comes from Canada. He will be the first Canadian to travel to deep space.

Hansen is a fighter pilot selected by the Canadian Space Agency for astronaut training in 2009. Hansen is one of four active Canadian astronauts.

Meanwhile, Wiseman is 47 and a test pilot and marine aviator. He was first selected to be a NASA astronaut in 2009.

Wiseman previously traveled in space to the International Space Station (ISS) using a Russian Soyuz rocket in 2014. During the Artemis II mission, Wiseman will act as commander.

In contrast, the Artemis II mission will be Glover’s (46) second mission to space in three years. Previously, Glover first flew into space in 2021 as the pilot of the second SpaceX Crew Dragon flight and spent nearly six months on the ISS.

Glover was born in California, USA and is a member of an American military squadron and was stationed in Japan. Glover was previously elected a NASA astronaut in 2013 while serving in the US Senate as a member of the legislature.

About Mission Artemis II

The Artemis II mission aims to send astronauts to distances further than the Moon. Until now, the exact distance could not be determined.

“The exact distance above the Moon will depend on the time of launch and the relative distance of the Moon from Earth when this mission is flown,” NASA spokeswoman Kathryn Hambleton said.

The plan, after circling the Moon, the Orion ship used on Artemis II will return to Earth and land in the Pacific Ocean.

Artemis II should pave the way for the Artemis II mission targeted for the end of the decade. In this mission, NASA promised to send the first women and people of color to the surface of the Moon.
