Actress Jodie Comer suddenly walked off stage during a Broadway show on Wednesday (06/07/2023), after saying she was having trouble breathing from the smoke from the fire.
Comer’s solo show, Prima Facie, continued after his replacement stepped in to end the show.
Smoke from wildfires in Canada has blanketed New York in recent days.
Hamilton’s appearance and some sporting events were postponed on Wednesday as people were advised to stay indoors or wear N95 masks outside.
“Today’s Prima Facie daytime show was interrupted approximately 10 minutes after the show. Jodie Comer experienced breathing difficulties due to poor air quality in New York due to smoke from the fires at Canadian forests,” a production spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.
Stuntman Dani Arlington replaced the Killing Eve star as Tessa, wrapping up the performance in around 100 minutes to a standing ovation, an eyewitness told Deadline.
The audience informed the time limit that after about three minutes of his performance, Comer coughed and called the stage manager. “I can’t breathe this air,” he said.
Comer, from Liverpool, England, has received rave reviews for the show since its debut in April.
In Prima Facie, he plays a lawyer who defends people against sexual harassment, but is then himself assaulted by a colleague.
