F1 News: Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso was satisfied despite failing to win the Canadian F1 Grand Prix on Sunday (18/6) local time. The runner-up was enough to make Alonso smile as he was tired of chasing after Max Verstappen.
In the race on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, Fernando Alonso was brilliant all weekend. Alonso first lost second place to Lewis Hamilton. Nevertheless, Alonso never gave up and eventually managed to reclaim second place from Hamilton. Alonso then moved away from Hamilton in hopes of catching Verstappen. Unfortunately, Alonso’s second attempt still failed and he had to settle for second. Even though it ended in an anti-climax, Alonso was satisfied to finish the race in second place.
“I knew we could take that second place home, I’m very satisfied. Overall it was the race I was hoping for. But to be honest, I wish I could have been a bit closer to Max. Unfortunately I lost my place to Lewis at the start. After that it was a heated fight with Hamilton, first behind him then in front of him. The guy doesn’t give up for a second, I can’t breathe deeply,” Alonso said.
“In the first part of the race I felt like I could go faster than Lewis, but he was in front. The funny thing is that it was the opposite towards the end of the race, he was faster then, but I’m ahead of him now. The race demanded everything from me. It was like a final 70-lap practice session!” he said.
