semarang – A meeting of ASEAN economic ministers will be held in Semarang during the 55th ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) event. Why is Semarang the host?
Director General of International Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Commerce, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, said Semarang has been chosen for the event whose series starts today, Thursday (17/8) to Tuesday (22/8) the week next.
“All this time, understanding or holding international meetings in Bali or Jogja or Jakarta is commonplace. We, the Ministry of Commerce and the Minister also want to introduce other cities in Indonesia that also have preparedness values. in terms of infrastructure and culture which the global community needs to know, at least ASEAN and ASEAN-related countries,” Djatmiko said at the event venue, Padma Hotel Semarang, on Thursday (17/ 8/2023).
He felt that Semarang deserved to be the host because apart from being a good city and its hospitality, it also supports international events.
“Semarang is a good city. Thank God we have several places like Padma Hotel which are representative of international activities,” he explained.
Delegates will also be brought to Sam Poo Kong Temple in Semarang on Sunday evening (20/8) during the gala dinner. Djatmiko explained that Semarang has a long history of political, economic and social problems, including cultural acculturation.
In Sam Poo Kong, he continued, one could talk about Admiral Cheng Ho who also brought diplomatic and trade missions when he came to Semarang.
“Semarang has a long history. There is culture, history, politics as well as the economy, the social. And this is reflected in the existence of Sam Poo Kong. There is Admiral Cheng Ho, so who is he, why are you here? explained Djatmiko.
Regarding the delegations present, Djatmiko said that there were more than 500 people made up of delegates from ASEAN countries and ASEAN partner countries.
“Over 500 delegates attended. A total of all ASEAN countries, one observer or one new country i.e. Timor Leste. Then ASEAN partner countries i.e. China, South Korea , Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India, Canada, United States United States, European Union, England, Russia,” he said.
In this series of events, there will be 19 series of meetings and 9 flagship activities. Preliminary data, this event will bring together 17 ministers and 7 deputy ministers from various countries.
