REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — MindRiot Entertainment, which previously produced a documentary series based on the OceanGate submarine tragedy Titan, has announced a new fiction film project that will delve deeper into this tragic story. Acclaimed producer E Brian Dobbins signed on to be one of the producers on the project.
Currently, the fiction film project has a title Recovered, which is also the title of the hit documentary series MindRiot. Screenwriters Justin MacGregor and Jonathan Keasey, part of the MindRiot team, will co-write the screenplay for this film. It is hoped that the project will depict the events before, during and after the tragedy. Titan submarine OceanGate which lasted five days and left five dead.
The company’s Titan submarine Ocean Gate mysteriously disappeared on June 18, 2023, sparking a massive search led by the United States and Canada. One of the passengers was Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate. Debris from the Titan submarine was finally discovered on June 22, 2023, near the location of the famous Titanic.
Former lawyer and filmmaker Jonathan Keasey said the Titan tragedy was another example of a disinformation system that was quickly seized upon. “In this case, it’s our media cycle nonstop24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which has condemned and destroyed the lives of so many people without any legal process,” Keasey said, as reported by DeadlineSaturday (9/30/2023).
He stressed that the film would not only pay tribute to those involved in the underwater tragedy and their families, but also answer larger questions about the nature of today’s media. Keasey emphasized that the truth is what matters. The world has always had the right to know the truth, not to feed on those seeking their five minutes of fame.
“Life is not black and white. Complicated. There are nuances. It’s always nuanced,” Keasey said.
In addition to this project, MindRiot Entertainment is also developing many other projects, including one based on the rap scene. underground in Seattle. The company also recently opened an office in Ireland led by Justin MacGregor, who is also Head of Cinema at Trinity College Dublin.
