Indonesia-Canada trade agreement expected to be signed soon

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency of the Indonesian House of Representatives (BKSAP), Fadli Zon, during a bilateral meeting with representatives of the Canadian Parliament held amid a series of activities at the 44th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Congress. The Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) discussed the fifth discussion of the Comprehensive Economic Agreement, a trade agreement expected to be signed by both parties in the near future.

“There is a conclusion, because with this comprehensive economic agreement, I think it will also facilitate economic and trade relations between Indonesia and Canada,” he told Parliament after the bilateral meeting held in Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (8/8). /2023).

Apart from this, the bilateral meeting also discussed other collaborations such as education and culture. The Canadian Parliament wants an exchange of students between the two countries as well as workers in certain fields because they require semi-skilled workers and skilled workers.

“The number of Indonesian students in Canada is also considered too low compared to our neighboring countries or other countries. They hope that more Indonesian students will study in Canada,” he concluded.

Then, he added, the Indonesian-Canadian Parliament also worked together in organizations such as the “Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption” (GOPAC), of which Fadli served as president during the 2015 periods. -2017 and 2017-2019, depending on the Canadian initiative of that time.

Canada also hosted the “Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum” (APPF) in Vancouver and is very active as an observer at AIPA. “Because it is a form of commitment, even if they are far away, they came to attend the 44th AIPA,” he explained.
