This was stated by Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan after accompanying President Joko Widodo in a bilateral meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 summit in India, Saturday (9/9).
“We ask for support from the Netherlands in explaining Indonesia’s position that EU deforestation is causing problems for Indonesia,” Zulhas, his nickname, said in a written statement on Sunday (10/ 9).
The existence of the European Union’s anti-deforestation law was also said to disrupt Indonesia’s agricultural productivity, such as that of coffee, cocoa, pepper, rubber and palm oil.
The General Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) also said that Indonesia encourages the Netherlands and France to finalize the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA). Accelerated completion of the IEU-CEPA is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
“The value of our trade with the European Union is low compared to other ASEAN countries, only a third. “With the existence of IEU-CEPA, we hope that this will increase,” said Zulhas.
