Mayor TorontoCanada, John Tory officially resigned on Friday (10/2) after admitting have an affair with former staff. The 68-year-old then vowed to reflect on his mistakes and regain the family’s trust.
“I admit that allowing this relationship to continue was a serious mistake on my part,” Tory told reporters at City Hall, as quoted by Reuters.
He said the case started during the pandemic and ended earlier this year.
Its current staff has worked elsewhere.
Quoted by CBC, he said the relationship happened when he was often away from his wife in the line of duty. He has been married for 40 years.
“I profusely apologize to the people of Toronto and to all who have been hurt by my actions, including staff, colleagues, city council, as well as city officials whom I greatly respect,” said Tori.
“Above all, I apologize to my wife, Barb, and to the families I let down.”
