Barrie Mosque invites society to annual barbecue

Local firefighters also participated in the Barrie Mosque event.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BARRIE — Barrie Mosque, Canada held annual barbecue on Saturday (08/07/2022) and invites people from diverse communities to join in the celebration. The Barrie Mosque offers free lunch.

Additionally, there are also vendors selling traditional goods as well as bouncy castles for children. There are also fire trucks and local firefighters to show the kids firefighting equipment. The firefighters also distributed gifts to the children.

Barrie mosque president Yusuf Haroon said nearly 500 local families took part in the activity. They said the event was very important, allowing people to get to know each other and encouraging inter-religious dialogue.

“We are open to everyone. We have just completed the construction of a mosque where we will have a large information center where anyone can enter if they have questions about us. We invite the Barrie firefighter, the police and the mayor, who comes to visit us. The fire department and police have been a very supportive team for us this whole time,” Haroon said.

A nice surprise for the event organizers was that Dominos Pizza provided a free pizza. “They won’t take a dime and say they’ll provide as much as we want. It means a lot to us,” Haroon said.

The mosque has been on Ferris Lane since 2004 after moving from its original location on Little Lake Drive, where it began in 1977. Haroon says the old location has become inadequate due to community growth.

It has long been the dream of the congregation to have a much larger space that can meet the needs of the community. A larger expansion to the facility has been added and most of the construction is now complete.
