REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AL RAYYAN — Belgium managed to win in the opening match of Group F, after beating Canada 1-0 on Thursday (24/11/2022) early morning WIB. Belgium must have won hard, after being pressed harder by Canada throughout the match.
Canada made more than 20 attempts to score but lacked precision and couldn’t find the Belgian goal kept by Thibaut Courtois. Canada had the chance to take the lead after receiving a handball penalty from Carrasco in the ninth minute. However, Courtois performed brilliantly as he blocked Davies’ shot from the spot.
Canada surprised everyone by dominating the match against the second-largest nation in the first 15 minutes. Eden Hazard’s cs didn’t even know how to create golden chances to score goals for 25 minutes.
Courtois even had to make another crucial save in the 29th minute, after Johnston’s shot from close range went straight on target. However, Belgium were able to take the lead thanks to the first chance they had in the 44th minute.
Recovering a long ball from the middle that was sent by Alderweireld, Batshuayi managed to unleash a good first shot that ripped through the Canadian goal. Belgium win 1-0.
Canada tried to catch up on 47 minutes, when Laryea sent a cross into the penalty area. Buchana, who received the bait, did not use it correctly. The 1-0 score to Belgium’s advantage lasted until the break.
Going into the second half, Canada still played the same way, that is to say by continuing to put pressure on Belgium. However, the poor finish meant that the North American country still failed to snatch the Belgian goal.
Both teams still failed to create golden chances until the 80th minute when Courtois managed to save Larin’s header. The score of 1-0 lasted until the end of the fight.
