Jakarta (ANTARA) – Canada’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Nadia Burger, has congratulated the success of Indonesia’s G20 Presidency and the G20 Summit in Bali last November.

“During the G20 (Summit), Canada fully supports the event. We, of course, support the priorities and agenda of the G20 (Indonesia) Presidency,” Burger said in a special interview with ANTARA at his Jakarta residence on Tuesday.

He said the G20 summit meeting in Indonesia brought together Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie and Canadian Minister for International Trade, SMEs and Economic Development Mary Ng.

“We are very happy to see the communications produced after the summit, which contain a number of very important results and which will help to solve a number of problems, such as the global recovery in the event of a pandemic, the energy transition, the transformation digital, the digital economy, energy security and food security,” Burger said.

Going forward, Burger said, his party will continue to see extraordinary results from the ongoing summit meetings. He said India would be the next chair of the G20 and under their leadership, Canada would also like to see ambitious goals.

Previously, Prime Minister Trudeau believed that Indonesia was capable of leading the G20 amid difficult circumstances and political tensions, and successfully pushed for a final deal at the G20 summit in Bali. The G20 summit took place on November 15-16, 2022 in Nusa Dua, Bali, and resulted in an agreement that was summarized in a document called the Bali Declaration.

The 52-paragraph document contains a joint G20 statement on a number of issues related to food and energy security, global health architecture and digital transformation.
