DJKI and APEC-DESG Hold International Workshop, Increase Efficiency and Business Processes

MANGUPURA, NusaBali.com – Following the collaboration between the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) – the Digital Economy Steering Group (DESG) which plays an active role in international economy, lessons learned on the implementation of artificial intelligence have been realized and have been developed by several APEC member countries, including Indonesia.

Thus, the Information Technology Branch organized a “workshop on sharing best practices for leveraging the benefits of artificial intelligence in intellectual property review to improve efficiency and business processes. ” located at Courtyard by Marriott Bali Nusa Dua Resort, Bali, on Tuesday (29/11/2022).

The event was organized to strengthen the transformation of the quality of digitally-enabled public intellectual property services through the improvement of information technology systems, Directorate General of Intellectual Property.

On this occasion, DJKI CIO Dede Mia Yusanti revealed that the workshop was held from Tuesday (11/29/2022) to Friday (12/2/2022).

He also said that during these 4 days, speakers will share the benefits of using artificial intelligence (AI) in the business processes of intellectual property offices, share their experiences and shed light on developments in the use of AI in each office.

“The use of information technology (IT) in IPR examinations, including industrial designs, trademarks and patents, cannot be denied to better serve the clients of the IPR Office at the digital age. Transforming services into digital form is currently something that is demanded by customers,” DJKI Chief Information Officer Dede Mia Yusanti said on Tuesday (11/29/2022).

On the same occasion, Head of Legal Services and Human Rights Division of Bali, Constantinus Kristomo, as a keynote speaker, said that intellectual property protection is very important, especially for owners. .

One of them is the Bali endek fabric which was used by state officials during the last G20 summit. The fabric has also become increasingly global since being used by Christian Dior in fashion shows as well as for the spring or summer 2021 collection.

“Therefore, the provincial government of Bali registers endek as community intellectual property of the Bali region. A side effect of registering KI is to increase the income of producers of original Balinese endek. To preserve Balinese culture, the provincial government of Bali specifically requires government employees and private sector agencies to use endek on Tuesday,” said Bali Legal and Human Rights Division Chief Constantinus Kristomo.

Constantinus Kristomo also spoke about the importance of interventions using artificial intelligence to inventory potential intellectual property in Bali.

And he also did not forget to mention the outcomes of the G20 declaration on digital transformation, namely digital connectivity, digital literacy and cross-border data related to the importance of artificial intelligence in digital transformation and the importance of data as a fuel for artificial intelligence.

“I appreciate the Intellectual Property Directorate General’s artificial intelligence for tracing trademarks and I hope this forum can showcase best practices from each country,” he concluded.

As a symbol of the opening of the DJKI and APEC – DESG collaborative activities, the representatives of DJKI and APEC – DESG opened the event directly by playing the gangsa (a Balinese gamelan instrument, editor’s note).

For further information, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is a cooperation forum between 21 economies around the Pacific Ocean which was established in 1989.
