A man Canada was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the United States for helping the group Islamic State in Syria.
Reported by news agency AFPTuesday (10/18/2022) Abdullahi Ahmed Abdullahi of Edmonton, Alberta, was extradited from Canada to San Diego, United States in 2019, the Department of Justice said the United States of America in a report.
The US Department of Justice said Abdullahi pleaded guilty in federal court in San Diego to all charges in December 2021.
The 37-year-old Canadian was charged with helping six North American nationals get to Syriawhere they joined ISIS.
To help raise funds, Abdullahi confessed to an armed robbery at an Edmonton jewelry store in 2014.
The six included Abdullahi’s three cousins from Edmonton, an 18-year-old cousin from Minneapolis and San Diego resident Douglas McAuthur McCain.
All six later died in battle with the group Islamic Statesays the US Department of Justice.
