London-Canada-Italy stage protests against Chinese atrocities



The slogans read “Tibet is not part of China”, “Tibet demands freedom”, “China stole my land, but not my voice!” and “Free Tibet”.

As well as the protests, a range of events have also taken place to mark the anniversary, such as a flag-raising ceremony at Town Hall, Woolwich Royal Borough of Greenwich, as quoted by ANI.



In addition to the Tibetan community in England, important London personalities were seen among the participants in the ceremony. These include Councilor Denise Hyland, Royal Borough of Greenwich Chief Sonam T Frasi and the Dalai Lama’s representative of the Tibet Office, as well as Tsering Passang who represents the Tibetan Community Council in the UK. Tsering Passang suggested that the Mayor of London reward the Dalai Lama with an award such as Messenger of Peace during an online event to raise awareness about the Tibetan issue.

The demonstrators condemned China’s illegal occupation of Tibet and raised the issue of the forced disappearance of Tibetans.

In Milan, Italy, a large number of Tibetans staged a protest in front of the Chinese Consulate General.

The President of the Italian Tibetan Association, Claudio Cardelli, and the President of the Tibetan Community of Italy, Tzeten Longoni, led the demonstration which was attended by about 50 people. They shouted anti-Chinese slogans and pointed to the recent self-immolation incident of a Tibetan citizen Norbu in Lhasa.

The protesters condemned China’s illegal occupation of Tibet over the past six decades and raised the issue of the enforced disappearance of Tibetans, including the Panchen Lama.

March 10 is a pivotal moment for the Tibetan community around the world. In 1959, Tibetans revolted against the forced occupation of their homeland by the Chinese Communist Party.
