JAKARTA, BALIPOST.com – Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo says there is no more controversy regarding Israel’s participation in the ANOC 2023 World Beach Games (AWBG) in bali. He said he had met Bali Governor Wayan Koster to discuss it.
“I met Bali Governor Wayan Koster yesterday with NOC or Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) President Raja Sapta Oktohari. Everything is fine, one thousand percent enthusiasm, no controversy,” Dito told the Ainul Hikmah Kemanggisan mosque, in Jakarta, Saturday (22/4), quoted by the news agency Antara.
Menpora Dito’s meeting with Governor Koster was held on Friday (4/14) at the Jayasabha Building, Denpasar, Bali. The meeting resulted in an agreement to fully support in providing space for the global event to run smoothly and successfully.
Dito revealed that Israel’s national team (Timnas) is uncertain about participating in the 2023 World Beach Games in Bali. Even so, his party has prepared anticipatory measures if Israel’s presence is confirmed.
“Certainly, if something happens, there must be anticipation, tactical measures in this regard,” he said.
The Meeting of the Chef de Mission (CoM) or Contingent President of the ANOC World Beach Games will bring together 69 countries in Bali from April 28 to May 1, 2023. This certainty was achieved thanks to an official letter sent by the Secretary General from ANOC, Gunilla Lindberg, to Indonesian NOC President Raja Sapta Oktohari, Monday (4/17).
In this list, he continued, the name of Israel did not appear. For this reason, Dito will ensure the presence of the Israeli national team at the CDM meeting at the end of April 2023.
“Not sure yet, because we will see later on April 28, 2023. Countries will officially attend the CDM meeting,” he added.
The NOC is a non-governmental organization affiliated to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and represents its country in sporting events. Meanwhile, the CoM meeting is a meeting of contingent leaders who have been appointed NOC participants in multi-branch sporting events.
AWBG Bali will be held from August 5-12, 2023 and will continue with the ANOC General Assembly from August 13-15, 2023. AWBG is the largest multi-branch event based on the number of participating countries that has ever taken place in Indonesia and can be a springboard towards the “candidacy” to host the 2036 Olympics.
At the CoM meeting, the Indonesia ANOC World Beach Games Organizing Committee will present the host’s readiness, be it arena, accommodation, transportation and others. AWBG Bali 2023 will bring together approximately 1,600 athletes from 130 countries. Athletes who appear must go through a rigorous qualification process until July 2023. (kmb/balipost)
