Muslim students in Canada distribute hundreds of winter coats to the homeless

As winter approaches in Windsor-Essex, Canada, the local Muslim community distributes hundreds of coats and other winter gear to the Unemployed Help Center (UHC) Opportunity Center, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to meeting the needs of vulnerable people living in Windsor and Essex County.

The charity work was carried out by a combination of Muslim students from Al-Hijra and An-Noor Islamic schools with the Islamic Center of Rose City. They donated over 100 coats which were also distributed by Coats for Kids on Howard Avenue.

One of Al-Hijra’s students, Leen Al Hamayda, said he was excited and happy to participate in the activity. He considers the donation of hundreds of cold coats important, given that the air temperature in Canada has dropped dramatically.

“As a Muslim community, we want to put a beautiful smile on children and others who don’t have a coat and seeing that smile means everything to everyone and especially to me,” Al Hamayda said as quoted by iHeart. Radio, Friday (16/12)/2022).

“As the winters in Canada are very cold by donating these coats, we wanted to bring joy to everyone and make sure they have a comfortable winter,” he added.

Meanwhile, one of An-Noor’s students, Manaal Hussain, said the activity was about giving back to society.

“It’s so cool and the fact that we can do something, we’re young, we’re 12-13 and we can do something, I mean, it’s amazing,” Hussain said.

According to About Islam, the Muslim community is known to distribute winter coats and clothes to help the homeless during the winter.

To help families survive the cold winter, volunteers from Islamic Relief Canada came together earlier this month to collect winter care supplies for those in need.

Their efforts are part of the national Winter Warmth campaign launched by Islamic Charity.
