One Piece Red earns over 8 billion yen at the Japanese box office

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA — The movie One Piece Red has grossed over eight billion yen in box office Japan. This film has sold at least more than 5.7 million admissions since its release on August 6 in Japan.

reported from ANNOne Piece Red movie ranked first in box office Japan in its first week in theaters. In fact, during the first two days of its broadcast, 1.58 million tickets were sold and brought in 2.254 billion yen, the equivalent of 16.7 million US dollars.

One Piece Red earned 78% more revenue in its first two days of release compared to the previous film, One Piece: Stampede.

One Piece Red has been shown in 27 theaters equipped with IMAX technology in Japan since August 6. The projection with IMAX technology is also followed by regular playback.

Additionally, One Piece Red was also screened with MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Atmos technologies on the opening day of the film. Crunchyroll is also set to premiere the film this fall 2022 in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

The story of the One Piece Red movie itself centers around a new character named Uta. Uta is the son of Red Hair Pirates captain Shanks, who is also the character who inspired Luffy to become a pirate.

Kaori Nazuka voiced the character of Uta while speaking. However, when singing, Uta’s character will be filled in by Ado, where Ado also sings the One Piece Red soundtrack titled “Shinjidai” or “New Genesis”.

Meanwhile, One Piece Red is directed by Goro Taniguchi, who has also directed several other anime such as Code Geass and One Piece: Defeat The Pirate Ganzack!.

Tsutomu Kuroiwa is writing the screenplay for the film. Not only that, One Piece manga creator, Eiichiro Oda is also directly involved in the making of One Piece Red and acts as a producer.
