Russian missile hits village in Poland, 2 people killed

Local officials said Polish President Andrzej Duda and US President Joe Biden are talking about it.

A senior US intelligence official said earlier that the blast was indeed from a Russian missile that had passed through Poland.

Polish ZET radio linked the explosions to two stray missiles, without providing further details.

Washington, the Pentagon, the White House and the US State Department said they were unable to corroborate the report and were working with the Polish government to gather more information.

Meanwhile, Germany and Canada said they were monitoring the situation, and the European Union, the Netherlands and Norway said they were seeking more details. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has ordered verification efforts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Russian missiles that hit Poland were part of a series of escalations in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

The Russian Defense Ministry denied that Russian missiles hit Polish territory. His party said the report was a form of deliberate provocation, which aims to escalate the situation.

“No attacks against targets near the Ukrainian-Polish state border were carried out by means of Russian destruction,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
