The Rohingya crisis must continue to attract international public attention

New York, MINA – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has said the issue of Rohingya refugees must continue to command the attention of the international community.

“Our common task is to ensure that the international community continues to pay attention to the Rohingyas,” the Indonesian Foreign Minister told the President of the Republic of Indonesia. High-Level Side Event on “The Rohingya Crisis””, in New York, United States, Thursday (22/9).

Retno stressed three main things that the international community must do, namely: first, create a situation conducive to the return of the Rohingya community.

Second, to ensure the safety and security of the Rohingya community at Cox’s Bazaar.

Third, promote peace and national reconciliation in Myanmar.

“ASEAN can certainly play an important role in restoring peace and stability in Myanmar. Indonesia, in this case, is committed to working with the international community to find lasting solutions to the Rohingya issue,” Retno said.

Promoting collaboration and shared responsibility to address the Rohingya crisis was also a key issue raised by a number of speakers at this meeting.

Indonesia is one of the co-hosts of the meeting High-Level Side Event on “The Rohingya Crisis” co-hosted by Bangladesh, Canada, Gambia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States and European Union. (R/RE1/P1)
