KONTAN.CO.ID – NUSA DUA. Indonesia is taking full advantage of its status as the G20 presidency. In the fourth meeting of the Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG), Indonesia took advantage of the bilateral meeting in the field of information and communication technology (ICT).

There are 12 registered countries, including G20 countries as well as several international bodies.

Bilateral cooperation is with Argentina, South Africa, Germany, Canada, Singapore, Cambodia, India, Japan, England, Netherlands, Spain, Australia , as well as with the United Nations Economic and Social Commissions for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The hope is that it can facilitate the steps to produce an agreement in the fourth DEWG. And another result is the creation of mutually beneficial cooperation between Indonesia and the G20 countries.

One of them is with Argentina. Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G Plate said in discussions with Micaela Sánchez Malcolm, Secretary of State for Public Innovation of the Chief of Staff of Argentine Ministers, addressing the issue of a network Broadband Internet that could link Argentina.

According to the Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information himself, Johnny plans to expand the broadband network that connects him to other parts of the world. Namely from Indonesia to South America, which passes through Argentina, Chile, then also to other American countries, then Europe, as well as East Asia and other parts of Asia.

In addition, there is also a discussion on the digital economy, including the question of expertise in this field. As for women and children.

“For this, we need a legal umbrella for cooperation between Indonesia and Argentina,” said Johnny, who appreciated Argentina at the fourth DEWG meeting.

Besides Argentina, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Johnny G Plate also held a meeting with Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies of South Africa. The meeting resulted in a common vision for the development of the ICT field for each country and globally.

South Africa itself wants to learn from Indonesia in developing the digital economy through training programs to reduce unemployment there. In addition, South Africa also wants to learn how to develop start-ups by looking at the success stories of startups in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with Stefan Schnorr, State Secretary in Germany’s Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport, Minister of Communications and Information Johnny G Plate said that in addition to discussing points on the agenda of the DEWG ministry meeting, he also discussed cooperation in the fields of communication and information technology and the digital economy.

“Germany and Indonesia have a long-standing relationship,” he said.

During the meeting, the Minister of Communication and Information hoped that Germany could implement the existing digital literacy program for other G20 countries.

In addition to that, it is also persuasive about safe and credible data exchange which is one of the topics of DEWG.

“We also hope to hold a follow-up meeting soon to discuss communication and information technology cooperation between the two countries,” Stefan said.

With Singapore, Communications and Information Technology Minister Johnny explained his conversation with Singapore’s Communications and Information Minister, Josephine Teo, regarding priority issues at DEWG, as well as digital economic developments in the ASEAN region.

Particularly related to the digital sector from upstream to downstream, including e-commerce and data management.

Another question concerned the discussion of the ninth meeting of the Joint Information and Communication Committee (ICJC) which will take place in November. As good as

talking points related to the expansion of digital cooperation agreements such as the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and others. As well as sharing experiences in the development of the digital economy during the pandemic and how to overcome it.

“We are happy to be invited by Indonesia to the DEWG Ministerial Meeting,” Josephine said.

Meanwhile, several countries that held meetings with Johnny G Plate were India, Holland, Spain, England, and others.
