Islamophobia in Toronto Canada often targets Muslims

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TORONTO – An imam at a mosque in Toronto, Canada, was attacked by a man during dawn prayers on Monday (12/12/2022). Islamic Foundation of Toronto Account Twitter the official said the incident happened during the dawn prayer.

A man infiltrated the mosque and attacked the imam. Fortunately, the man’s action was stopped by the congregation.

After the incident, the Islamic Foundation of Toronto also reported to the police. The police immediately arrested the perpetrators of the attack.

A Toronto police spokesperson confirmed that officers are investigating reports of an assault at 7 a.m. local time against an imam at a mosque on Nugget Avenue in the Markham Road and Toronto’s Sheppard Avenue East.

“After further investigation, the suspect exited the property,” a Toronto police spokesperson said.

Toronto police said the man was escorted off the property. Officers said no injuries were reported and no charges were filed.

However, police said if the man returned to the mosque he could be charged under the Property Offenses Act.

‘There are concerns that mental health issues may be a factor in what happened today,’ police said.
