Ukraine hopes to start using Western tanks in the spring

Bisnis.comJAKARTA – Minister of Defense Ukraine Alexey Reznikov said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces may start using Western ground tanks war in spring.

Reznikov said this in an interview with Canadian television channel CBC on Sunday (29/1/2023).

“Hopefully we’ll start using it maybe in the spring,” he said, as reported by TASS on Monday (1/30/2023).

According to him, the Ukrainian army intends to form at least two tank battalions from the supplies promised by Western countries, which will be used to continue the counter-offensive.

He hopes Western countries will continue to supply tanks to Kyiv in the future. That said, the promise of tanks is not the end of the story, but the beginning of the story.

On January 25, 2023, the United States (US) authorities announced their intention to deliver 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Kyiv, Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Germany will deliver 14 Leopard 2 tanks from the country’s inventory and allow other countries to re-export armored military vehicles.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on January 26 that the Leopard 2 tanks would be delivered to Ukraine before the end of March this year. Meanwhile, on January 25, Norway and Slovakia announced their intention to send tanks to Kyiv.
