KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. The weakening of the Rupee exchange rate deepened on Thursday (18/8) afternoon. At 12:11 a.m. WIB, the spot exchange rate for the rupee weakened by 0.48% to 14,839 Rp per United States (US) dollar.
This morning, the Rupee was still moving around the 14,776 Rupees per US Dollar level, weakening only slightly from yesterday’s position of 14,768 Rupees per US Dollar.
The weakening of the Rupee exchange rate this morning was in line with the movement of the majority of Asian currencies. The Rupee weakened along with the Won, Baht, Singapore Dollar, Ringgit, Yuan and Taiwan Dollar. Meanwhile, the yen, peso and Hong Kong dollar strengthened against the greenback.

At the same time, the dollar’s exchange rate strengthened slightly against Asian currencies. This morning the dollar index is at 106.6 compared to yesterday’s position at 106.57.
Bloomberg reports that the outlook for major commodity currencies is under pressure. Currencies heavily exposed to commodities such as the Canadian dollar, New Zealand dollar and Brazilian real came under pressure. Meanwhile, a number of currencies that remain bullish include the Rupee and the Rupee.
