3 people killed and 4 injured due to an avalanche in Canada

Three skiers killed in an avalanche in the Kootenay Rockies, Canada West region. Meanwhile, 4 other people including the guide were reported injured.

Reported by AFP, Friday (03/03/2023), this incident occurred when a group of 10 people were caught in an avalanche on Wednesday (1/3) afternoon in the area of ​​Mount Panama Resort , about 160 kilometers west of Calgary. This was revealed by Canadian police James Grandy.

Grandy said of the injured, some of them were in serious condition. They were then airlifted to a hospital in Invermere.



All of the dead were foreign nationals. During this time, their names and nationalities will be kept secret pending notification of their next of kin.

This winter has been one of the worst on record for avalanche deaths in British Columbia’s westernmost province Canada. Two off-duty cops and two brothers from Pennsylvania were among the recent dead.

Avalanche Canada warned in early January of a high risk of a large and frightening avalanche due to the unstable snowpack.
