70 years of Indonesia-Canada relations, Jokowi encourages stronger economic cooperation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is firmly committed to continuing to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Canada in the future. This was conveyed during a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister Canada Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Elmau, Monday (6/27/2022).


“This year, we commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Canada. Indonesia and Canada must continue to promote a spirit of cooperation, a spirit of collaboration and a spirit of multilateralism in the face of current global challenges,” said Jokowi, quoted in a press release from the Palace on Tuesday (28/6/2022 ).


Therefore, to continue to strengthen economic cooperation, President Jokowi is pushing for the completion of the ICA-CEPA negotiations in 2024, which will send a positive signal to the Indonesian and Canadian business community.


On this occasion, Jokowi also expressed his gratitude for Canada’s full support for the Indonesian G20 Presidency. President Jokowi during a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Trudeau, namely Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Arif Havas Oegroseno.
