Tennis News: Tennis player with Serbian nationality, Dusan Lajovic always looks hot in the European clay court season when he competes in the 2023 Madrid Open season.

The world number 40 picked up his third victory over a top 10 player in the last 10 days at the Madrid Open by beating seventh seed Felix Auger Aliassime 6-2 3-6 7-6 in the second round of the Madrid Open.

The 32-year-old won her second round match with a superb start in the third set tiebreaker. He snatched a 5/0 lead against Canadian Auger Aliassime who then looked to threaten but ultimately couldn’t prevent the Serb from converting his sixth match point in a game that lasted 2 hours 34 minutes.

“It was a very tight finish,” admitted Lajovic, who squandered his first two match point chances at 6/5 on serve at the hands of the seventh seed.

The Serbian national beat world number 1 Novak Djokovic and world number 6 Andrey Rublev en route to claiming the second title of his career at the Banja Luka Open. He is now 16-7 in 2024 and is now 3-0 head to head against Auger Aliassime after also beating the Canadian at the 2020 ATP Cup and in 2021 in Toronto.

“In this match, I really felt I had to show my game,” Lajovic said when asked about his hat-trick against a top-10 player.

“I know I have a chance if I play my best match. It’s really great to have that level of confidence, but I also have to be careful because it’s very easy to lose confidence, especially in tennis.”

In the third round of the Madrid Open, Lajovic will meet Jan Lennard Struff after the German beat 32nd seed Ben Shelton 4-6 7-6 7-5.

Besides Auger Aliassime, two top tennis seeds, Tommy Paul and Dan Evans, also fell in the second round of the Madrid Open.

Roman Safiullin beat 14th seed Paul 6-3 7-6 to reach the third round of the Masters 1000 tournament for the first time in his career and set up a third-round clash against local player Bernabe Zapata Miralles who eliminated the No. 19, Evans 6-3, 6-2.
