Canadian pop-punk band Sum 41 have announced their split after 27 years, with their next album, their ninth studio effort, being their last.

“Being number 41 since 1996 has delivered some of the best times of our lives,” the band wrote in a social media post on Monday. “We are forever grateful to our fans, old and new, who have supported us in every way. It’s hard to express the love and respect we have for all of you, and we want you to hear it right away. first of us.

“A total of 41 will be liquidated,” he continued. “We are still working on all of our tour dates this year and look forward to releasing our latest album ‘Heaven:x:Hell’ as well as celebrating our final headlining world tour. Details will be announced when we have them.

The band, which currently consists of frontman Derrick Whibley, Dave Baksh, Jason McCaslin, Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo, began as a NOFX cover band in 1996; Whibley is the only remaining member of the original lineup, which has changed over the years.

The band signed with Island Records in 1999 and released their debut EP, “Half an Hour” the following year. Their debut album ‘All Killer No Filler’ was released in May 2001 and featured hits such as ‘Fat Lip’, ‘Motivation’ and ‘In Too Deep’. The album eventually went platinum in the US and UK, and triple platinum in Canada.

The hard-touring band enjoyed a hot streak in the 2000s with albums like “Is It Affected?”, “Chuck” and “Underclass Hero,” going gold or platinum in multiple countries and building on a steady legacy of hit. Since then, all of their albums have charted well in Canada and other territories. The members also explored solo projects, with Whibley notably producing a pair of songs in 2006 for Avril Lavigne, to whom he has been married for four years, among other pursuits.
