The nephew of US President (deceased) John F Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy Jr. raised the issue crypto in the political competition strategy to become the United States (US) presidential candidate of the Democratic Party. Namely, by swearing to defend bitcoin.
Launch Yahoo Newscampaign promises crypto and the policy that Kennedy released on the last day of the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Miami, Florida,
Robert entered with force Bitcoins in his campaign platform, saying that this cryptocurrency must be defended against invasive surveillance.
“We live in a time when technology has dangerously expanded the ability of governments and corporations to control our lives,” Kennedy said.
“Distant and absent multinational corporations and authoritarian technologies have usurped areas of human activity that were once private or communal.”
Crypto Winter Bitcoin Conference Attendance Rate
Separate Yahoo News report, crypto winter blamed for 50% drop in attendance at Bitcoin 2024 conference in Miami.
The conference ended on Sunday, with speakers including US presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy and bestselling author The big shortsMichael Lewis.
This annual event is the biggest conference on bitcoin (BTC-USD) and the crypto calendar, yet only around 15,000 people attended this year, less than half of the 35,000 people who attended in 2022.
Many blame the fall in crypto prices due to the crypto winter for the lack of interest this year.
The value of Bitcoin in last year’s event was around US$45,000, while in this year’s event the digital asset was around US$26,000.
With falling crypto prices, many companies have cut travel and marketing costs.
At this year’s event at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Kennedy spoke about how he would protect the rights of Bitcoin and crypto stakeholders if he wins the political race to become President of the United States.
“As president, I will ensure that your right to own and use bitcoin is inviolable,” he said.
Robert referenced the use of bitcoin to circumvent financial restrictions during trucker protests in Canada last year.
“None of these lawful and peaceful protesters violated any law. But suddenly they find they can’t access their money, their bank account to pay the mortgage or feed their family,” he said. [ab]
