Tennis News: Bianca Andreescu shares her views on being a positive role model and influence after being warmly welcomed by the crowd at the 2023 French Open.
The Canadian tennis player secured a place in the third round of the French Open for the first time in her career after beating American tennis player Emma Navarro 6-1, 6-4. She was dominant in the first set, notably winning 80% of her service points without facing a break point opportunity and finishing in just 29 minutes.
In the second set, the Canadian trailed 2-4, but she showed courage and fought back to beat Navarro.
During the press conference, the Canadian was asked about the incredible support she received from the Roland Garros crowd. He said he received so much support because his main goal was to be a good role model and to be a positive influence on others.
“One of my goals is to be a good role model, a positive influence on others. At the end of the day, tennis is entertainment and I think I can put on an interesting show many times over,” said Andreescu .
“I think that’s also why the public loves me. I think sometimes I can also be humorous. Like that (demonstrating) with the audience or sometimes just interacting with them. Yes, I think that’s the reason. But yeah, it feels good.”
He also revealed that he felt confident in Miami, but lately struggled with the negative thoughts and bad days he went through. However, his recent wins have given him the boost of confidence he needs and he is determined to get my motivation going as he showed when he won the US Open in 2019.
“In Miami, I feel pretty good in all aspects. I think the last few days I’ve had a lot of bad days and a lot of negative thoughts have come over me,” Andreescu said.
“This game definitely gave me confidence about it. Yes, I want to get back the motivation I had in 2019 more than anything.”
Before that, Andreescu will face Lesia Tsurenko in the French Open third round after her Ukrainian opponent and fellow Navarro player Lauren Davis retired from the match as the Ukrainian led 6-3 1-0.
