Rabies dog bite victims on Timor island, NTT increase, 139 people in total

TTS – The Livestock and Animal Health Service of South Central Timor Regency (TTS), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province has reported that the number of residents bitten by rabid dogs in the district has reached 139 people .

“Now a person with rabies symptoms is being treated in hospital for intensive care,” said Dianar Atti, head of the TTS district animal husbandry and health department of So’e, the capital. from TTS Regency, Antara on Sunday, June 4.

He said the number of rabid dog bite victims in the district continued to rise even though the Regent had issued an Extraordinary Rabies Incident Status (KLB) in the area.

Data on 139 people bitten by rabid dogs wereupdates since last Saturday. Meanwhile, for Sunday (4/6), data collection is still ongoing. He detailed that out of a total of 139 victims bitten by rabid dogs, apart from one person who was being treated in intensive care in hospital, 18 others were declared to have typical symptoms of rabies, while the rest were declared asymptomatic. .

“While the other 121 victims were examined, they found no symptoms in the form of rabies bites, as the bite period was not long,” he added.

Furthermore, he said hundreds of residents bitten by rabid dogs were spread across 12 sub-districts out of 32 sub-districts of TTS and spread across 43 villages.

Responding to the increasing number of people bitten by rabid dogs, the head of Kupang Class I Agricultural Quarantine Center, Yulius Umbu H, called on all parties to unite to make serious efforts to collaborate with regional governments. and central to controlling rabies outbreaks, especially in the epicentres of the Flores and TTS outbreaks.

“The government’s task is not only meetings, zoom-zooms, calls, writing letters, etc., but it needs real action, let’s be escorted if you need to be forced”, a- he added.

He said NTT Governor Vector B Laiskodat issued an appeal letter as did the TTS Regent who issued a statement on the outbreak.

“During the epidemic period, the bite cases continued to increase, the infected districts and villages also expanded,” he added.
