Canada is the coldest country in the world

While many people consider the coldest northern European state, that may not be entirely true. In fact, Canada is the country with the coldest average annual temperature in the world.


As the second largest country in the world, Canada has a small population. The country has a diverse climate, with the northern two-thirds experiencing extremely cold conditions throughout the year.

January is the coldest month in history, but February has seen a bigger drop in temperature in recent years.

It should be noted that extreme winter in the hinterland can drop to -40°C, usually a few days after very heavy snowfalls.

Russia and Mongolia

Besides Canada, Russia and Mongolia are among the three coldest countries in the world with the lowest average annual temperature.
