Montreal Canada, Thousands of people have been evacuated across Canada due to the new out-of-control fires, which a provincial minister said could last “all summer”.
While the country is seeing temperatures rise faster than any other country in the world, nearly 17,800 square miles have burned since the start of the year, well above the previous average.

Yellowhead County Chief Executive Luc Mercier, where Edson is located, said, “The fire got so out of control that several forest officers had to withdraw. “They can’t contain these fires.”
Edson’s evacuation came as a “large convoy” fleeing the city, resident Hayley Waites told broadcaster Dr. News.
He said: “When you panic to leave, all you think about is running away. But as soon as you drive away, you ask, “What if my house isn’t there when I get back?”
The town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, with 2,400 residents, mostly evacuated as the fire approached, is a few miles from town.
In the east of the country, Quebec Public Safety Minister Francois Bonnardel said early Saturday that conditions in the center and northwest of the province were still difficult, with several towns at risk.
The fires in northeastern Quebec are considered “stable”.
“This is the first time in the history of Quebec to fight so many fires, to evacuate so many people,” he said. “We’re going to have a fight that we think will last all summer.”
Around 14,000 people are under evacuation orders in the province, with Bonnardel saying “we have not won the battle”.
Environmental authorities currently record 416 active fires in the country, of which 203 are classified as out of control.
