Kadiv Hubinter Polri Reveals Markus in Canadian Citizen Extortion Case – Teropong News

TEROPONGNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Chief of International Relations Division (Hubinter) of National Police Inspector General Krishna Murti suspects there was a broker in the ‘markus’ case in the extortion case of Canadian citizen Stéphane Gagnon (50) who is wanted by Interpol for being involved in a case of fraud and insurance fraud with a loss of 5,000 Canadian dollars.

Krishna explained that two members of Polri allegedly involved in this matter had been arrested and were being prosecuted by Propam Polri.

“So yes, someone played a part in this case, we are investigating but thank God we caught it,” he said when confirmed by reporters on Monday (5/6/ 2023).

In more detail, Krishna explained that the investigation process is still ongoing to reveal the involvement of the parties in this matter.

This resulted in the postponement of the process of repatriating Stéphane following the act of extortion.

“To explore the parties involved, we postponed our deportation for a few days and investigated who was involved,” he said.

“Yes, we have postponed the investigation so that this incident becomes clear,” he concluded.

For information, Stéphane through his lawyer DNT Lawyers admitted that Rp. 1 billion was extorted. SG considers that his identity is different from the identity of the red notice, in particular in the section passport number.

Stéphane transferred Rp. 1 billion so that these elements would not bother him. Soon after, the person demanded Rp. 3 billion in cash. He said the money would be distributed to several Divhubinter parties.
