Incident of potential passengers banned from praying at Canadian railway station, referred to as disturbing other passengers

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – An unpleasant incident happened to a potential passenger at a train station in Ottawa, Canada. The Muslim man who said his name was Ahmad was reprimanded by a security guard. He said Ahmed was forbidden to pray in the station area because he was seen as disturbing other passengers.

The video of the passenger being scolded for praying has gone viral. In the video, you can hear the security guard say, “Don’t pray here. We don’t want you praying here. You’re bothering our other customers, okay? Pray outside next time.”

It was discovered that the security guard was a contract employee working for Via Rail Canada. He approached Ahmad after the man finished praying. Ahmad, who said he was unwilling to pray at the end of a deserted alley, was seen as disturbing other passengers. However, the security guard reacted by threatening to report Ahmad to his company.

He said, “This incident made me feel ashamed. I was just disgusted. Like: This is Canada? This is the nation’s capital? This is Ottawa?”

Via Rail authorities reacted to the incident by firing the employee. The report said an investigation had been opened into the “regrettable and sad incident”.
