TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -President Joko Widodo or Jokowi received an honorary visit from the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, at the Merdeka Palace, in Jakarta, on Monday, April 11, 2020. During this meeting, Jokowi wished to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
One of them is to intensify negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). These negotiations have started since March 2022.
“The president said that the negotiations had to be accelerated,” said the foreign minister Retno Marsudi who participated in the meeting, in a written statement, Monday, April 11, 2022.
Besides CEPA, various other issues were also discussed. clean energy, Infrastructureto the interest of Canadian investors to continue investing in the country.
Retno said Canada is one of Indonesia’s most important trade and investment partners for the North American region. The value of trade between Canada and Indonesia in 2021 increased quite significantly by almost 30% and the value of investments also increased by almost 4%.
Then Retno said Jolly conveyed Canada’s support for the presidency G20 Indonesia. In addition, Retno said, Canada has also expressed its commitment to continue to have open communication with Indonesia in order to best prepare the G20 to deal with the difficult situation that is currently unfolding.
Before Canada, Indonesia also received similar support from all G20 member countries. Therefore, Retno said that Indonesia wants these aids to be actually carried out.
“We are working together so that once again the G20 can work optimally in the midst of this difficult situation,” he said.
