DENPASAR, KOMPAS.com– Bali Regional Police (Polda) arrested a Canadian citizen, Stéphane Gagnon (50), who was declared a fugitive by Interpol at a villa in Canggu Berawa, North Kuta, Badung, Bali, on Saturday (20/5/2023 ).
This man has been wanted by Interpol with red notice status since August 2022. He is suspected of being involved in a fraud and counterfeiting case in Canada.
“The subject is a fugitive from the Canadian government as he is suspected of committing fraud and forgery in Canada,” Bali Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Pol Stefanus Satake Bayu Setianto said in a statement on Saturday. written.

In the Interpol red notices, Gagnon is suspected of having committed fraud on the pension funds of 335 people with a total loss of Rp. 74.6 million.
Satake said the suspect’s whereabouts in Bali were first discovered by Class 1 Special Immigration Ngurah Rai on Friday (5/19/2023).
Moreover, this foreigner was handed over to the Bali police for arrest.
“This arrest was based on a letter from Kadiv Hubinter Polri Number: R/347/V/HUM.4.4.9/2023/Divhubinter, dated May 19, 2023, regarding the request for the arrest and detention of the subject of the notice red from Interpol Stéphane Gagnon, and arrest warrant number: SP.Kap/47/V/2023/Ditreskrimum, May 20, 2023,” he said.

Satake said the suspect has been temporarily detained at the Bali Police Detention Center for the next 20 days pending an extradition request from the Canadian government.
