Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi made it past the Top 16 at Taiwan Open 2023

Badminton News: Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi, the 6th ranked men’s doubles duo in the world, faced a three-match challenge in the first round of the 2023 Taiwan Open which took place at Tian- Mu Arena Taipei.

However, they finished victorious against local pair, world number 49 Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Yang Ming-tse, 15-21, 21-12 and 21-15 to secure their place in the second round of the 2023 Taiwan Open.

Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi will next face another Malaysian pair, Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn/Tan Wee Kiong in the next round. Azriyn/Tan defeated Kim Young Hyuk/Wang Chan of South Korea 21-17, 18-21, 23-21 in their first round match.

Another Malaysian pair, Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun, also advanced to the second round after beating Canadian pair Lam Wai Lok/Kern Pong Lap Kan 21-12, 21-11. Their next opponents will be the winner between Cheng Kai Wen/Liao Chao Pang from Taiwan or Christian Bernardo/Alvin Morada from the Philippines.

Unfortunately, two other pairs of Malaysian men’s doubles were eliminated in the first round. Boon Xin Yuan/Wong Tien Ci lost to South Korean pair Jin Yong/Na Sung Seung 17-21, 23-21, 15-21 while Goh V Shem/Lim Khim Wah also lost to local pair – Chen Zhi Ray/Lu Chen with 17-21, 14-21.

In the first men’s singles qualifying match, Aidil Sholeh of Malaysia triumphed over Subhankar Dey of India in a thrilling encounter, winning 21-17, 18-21, 21-15 before continuing his success by defeating Korakrit Laotrakul of Thailand 16-21, 22-20, 21-13 to advance to the main draw. His next challenge will be against Japan’s 4th seed, Kenta Nishimoto, in the first round of the main draw.
