F1 News: Fernando Alonso thinks Aston Martin is closing in on Red Bull Racing, plus they plan to bring another upgrade to the Austrian GP and British GP.
Aston Martin once again showed its power at the Canadian GP thanks to Fernando Alonso’s second podium. Additionally, wind tunnel test results and factory team simulator data at Silverstone predict that the AMR23 car will soon be on par with the Red Bull RB19 car.
They are known for introducing major recent improvements to Montreal. Thanks to this improvement, Alonso managed to beat Lewis Hamilton in the race for second place and finished 10 seconds behind winner Max Verstappen.
Even though the man from Spain drove at a limited speed for 45 laps due to an alleged problem with the car’s fuel system. Aston Martin’s tenacity at the Canadian GP was even praised by Verstappen.
“From our side, I don’t think it was our best day, because of tire temperature etc. So that doesn’t help,” Alonso said as quoted by Crash.
“But I also know that with their renewal they are of course improving. So for sure they are getting closer to us,” he added.
The British team also plans to provide another upgrade of the AMR23 car to the Austrian GP and the British GP.
“We can only optimize the package at Spielberg and Silverstone,” Alonso said.
