Tennis News: Canadian tennis player, Felix Auger Aliassime is feeling mentally stable after preparing for the second half of the 2023 season.
The 2023 season hasn’t been the best season for the world No. 12 so far, including first-round exits from French Open and Wimbledon.
The 22-year-old is mentally and physically unable to cope with a busy schedule in 2024 as he currently sits 39th in the ATP Race To Turin rankings with just 715 points.
Looking back on the 2023 season so far, the Canadian admits it hasn’t been the best season for her, but she hopes to return to her best performance.
“It’s clear that this season has not been what I had hoped for so far, admits Auger Aliassime.
“Fortunately for me, it’s not over. In the end, I’m fine mentally. I feel positive about it all. I have time to be at home and train and try to improve my knee and see where it comes from and work on that for the future as well.
“If I can carry that physical condition onto the pitch, I know the positive results will start to come in little by little or maybe even faster because I’ve known myself better and better for quite a while.”
The world number 12 hopes to be fully fit after injuring his knee during the clay-court season. One of the aspects he talks about is the mental side because tennis is psychologically one of the most demanding sports in the world.
However, the 22-year-old says after such a long break he is mentally ready to compete for the biggest titles the sport has to offer.
“Mentally, of course, there are ups and downs, explains Auger Aliassime. “We don’t feel confident every week. But I feel mentally stable. I feel in a good position. I feel very focused, motivated and confident in my abilities. I know I will be mentally ready for the big games and to fight for prestigious titles.
One of the major tournaments leading up to the US Open is the Masters 1000 tournament, the Rogers Cup in Toronto.
Speaking of the opportunities that await him in Toronto, Auger Aliassime added: “It’s always been an important tournament for me away from home, definitely the Grand Slam. As a tennis player, it’s always great to win in front of your own home crowd. It was great to win in Canada for me, so hopefully this will be one of the tournaments I win in my career.
Before fully concentrating on the Toronto tournament, Auger Aliassime will participate in the ATP 500 level tournament to be held in Washington.
