Medan becomes host of Indonesia Masters

Jakarta: The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) will organize two badminton tournaments internationally, namely Xpora Indonesia International Challenge 2023 and BNI Indonesia Masters 1 2023 Super 100. The city of Medan in North Sumatra is expected to be the host.

The Xpora Indonesia International Challenge will run from August 29 to September 3, continuing with the BNI Indonesia Masters 1 2023 Super 100 level from September 5 to 10. The venue for both tournaments was at Fishing Sports Hall, Deli Serdang.

According to Organizing Committee Chairman, Armand Darmadji, Xpora Indonesia International Challenge and BNI Indonesia Masters 1 2023 Super 100 level are PBSI’s commitment to welcome coverings and junior players to perform at international level. .

“Following last year’s success in Malang, this year PBSI is once again entrusted with hosting two tournaments at the International Challenge and Super 100 levels with the aim of welcoming liner and junior players to perform internationally,” said Armand.

“This tournament is also a PBSI program to continue popularizing badminton in all parts of Indonesia,” he continued.

The city of Medan was chosen as the host because it saw the availability and capacity of the fishing sports center which already had the appropriate capacity to organize an international badminton tournament. Apart from Medan, who has been absent from hosting an international badminton tournament for 27 years.

“In accordance with the direction of the General Chairman and the General Secretary of PP PBSI to continue to coordinate and cooperate with the administrators of PBSI in the province, then seeing the readiness and capacity of the sport fishing center in the north of Sumatra, we have chosen Medan as the host for these two tournaments,” said Armand.

“Obviously, this opportunity is a desire for the city of Medan after waiting 27 years. Medan finally started to organize an international badminton championship again after the last event in 1996 with the Indonesia Open,” Armand said. .

Armand also did not forget to express his gratitude to Xpora and BNI for fully supporting the holding of Xpora Indonesia International Challenge 2023 which offered a total prize of US$15,000 as well as BNI Indonesia Masters 1 2023 Super level 100 which offered a total prize of 100,000 USD.

“Thanks to Xpora and BNI as main sponsors of this tournament. Hope the good cooperation between us can continue,” said Armand.

Participants in the Xpora Indonesia International Challenge reached 308 players from 19 countries. Namely Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, USA and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, at BNI Indonesia Masters 1 2023 Super 100, there were 436 additional players from 22 countries. Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Canada, United Kingdom, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkey, United States of America and Indonesia.

Speaking of players who dropped out, the Red-White team is full of young players ready to shine and achieve the highest podium. Among them are Alwi Farhan, Yohanes Saut Marcelyno, Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari, Muh Putra Erwiansyah/Patra Harapan Rindorindo, Ribka Sugiarto/Lanny Tria Mayasari à Jafar Hidayatullah/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata.

“I am currently training intensively before these two tournaments, I hope I can achieve maximum results. I am also evaluating and improving from previous matches,” said Komang when asked about his preparation.

“Lanny (Tria Mayasari) and I won’t play in Super 100 until later. We try to keep improving all aspects, especially communication. We definitely want to win,” Ribka said.
