Indian soccer stars BV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen qualified for the men’s and women’s singles quarter-finals of the Canadian Open Super 500 respectively. While Sindh advanced to the quarter-finals after Japanese rivals Natsuki Nidaira gave him a chance, Sen went through with a 21-15 21-2 win 11 over Brazilian Yegor Coelho in 31 minutes.
Sindh will meet 2022 World Cup champion Indonesia Gao Fangjie, who was instrumental in China’s victory at this year’s Asian Mixed Team Championships. Sen, the Commonwealth Games gold medalist, will face Belgium’s Julien Carraghi.

However, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardan Jodhpanggala couldn’t progress past the semi-finals, as they were beaten 9-21, 11-21 by Indonesian second seeds and world seventh seeds Muhammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan.
Sen is slowly regaining his touch after going through a small stretch earlier in the season. During the match, he struggled against Coelho, who erased a 0-2 deficit by four points and then maintained his intensity. The duo closed in at 13-13 as Sin managed to come back and finish the fight after jumping to 20-15 with a five-point flurry.
In the second game, Sen had almost no problem as he ran up 12-2 and made big moves to win the game comfortably.
