Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan met with Canadian Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Mary Ng on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting in Semarang. During this bilateral meeting, the two discussed a number of important agendas.
The two important issues discussed at this meeting included the completion of the Canada-ASEAN FTA (ACAFTA) negotiations and the Indonesia-Canada CEPA (ICA-CEPA) negotiations.
“I held a bilateral meeting with Canada and encouraged the process of the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICE-CEPA) and ASEAN free trade negotiations with the Agreement ASEAN-CANADA Free Trade Agreement (ACAFTA),” said Zulhas, ASEAN economic official. Furthermore, Zulhas explained that the ICA-CEPA negotiations launched on June 21, 2022 are expected to increase trade in Indonesian goods, services and investments in the North American region.
According to him, these negotiations constitute one of Indonesia’s priority agendas. For this reason, Indonesia supports the completion of the ICA-CEPA negotiations according to the agreed target in 2024.
For information, during this meeting, Zulhas was accompanied by Director General of International Trade Negotiations Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, Special Staff of the Minister of Commerce for International Trade Agreements Bara Khrisna Hasibuan, Director of ASEAN Negotiations Dina Kurniasari and the director of bilateral negotiations Johni. Martha.
