By beating Canada 5-1, Mali enters the Top 16 – Berita Merdeka Online

JAKARTA, BERITAMERDEKAONLINE.COM – Mali U-17 National Team qualified for the round of 16 of the 2023 U-17 World Cup. This result was achieved after Mali beat Canada on the third day of Group B, Thursday November 16, 2023.

The match between Mali and Canada was played at the Gelora Bung Tomo stadium. Mali won with a score of 5-1.

Mali’s four goals were scored by Ibrahim Diarra, Mahamoud Barry, Ibrahim Konaté, Hamidou Makalou and Ousmane Thiero. Meanwhile, Canada’s consolation goal was created thanks to the action of Richard Chukwu.

This result places Mali in second place in Group B with six points. Meanwhile, Canada is at the bottom of the rankings and will almost certainly fail to reach the round of 16.

Mali started the first half very well. In the 14th minute, Ibrahim Diarra scored with his left foot. Then, in the 25th minute, it was Mahamoud Barry’s turn to score from a corner.

However, in the final phase of the first half, the Canadian team had a good time. Several opportunities can be created. The highlight, in the 45th minute, Richard Chukwu scored a goal and made the score 2-1.

The second half was interesting. Canada and Mali both had opportunities to score goals. However, until the 65th minute, the score was still 2-1 for Mali.

After a long stalemate, Mali scored a goal in the 73rd minute thanks to Ibrahim Konaté. Four minutes later, Hamidou Makalou scored a goal that broke the mentality of the Canadian players. Mali then sealed the victory thanks to the action of Ousmane Thiero in the 90+1 minute.
