A Canadian court has released the daughter of Huawei founder Meng Wanzhou on bail.
The Vancouver court judge determined that Meng could get out of prison by paying 10 million Canadian dollars, the equivalent of IDR 109.4 billion.
However, Meng must now languish in one of his homes in Vancouver, under total surveillance 24 hours a day. He is also required to wear an electronic bracelet on his leg so that authorities can continue to monitor his movements.
Meng, who was chief financial officer of China’s largest telecommunications company, also faces extradition to the United States.
US President Donald Trump has said he may intervene in Meng’s case so that US-China relations do not deteriorate.
“Whatever is good for this country, I will do,” Trump was quoted as saying by the news agency. Reuters.
“If I thought it would be good for what would be the biggest trade deal – which is a very important thing – and it would be good for national security, obviously I would do it if I thought it was necessary.”

The 46-year-old woman was arrested while in transit at the Vancouver airport on December 1 at the request of the United States.
The United States accuses Meng of using a Huawei subsidiary called Skycom to evade sanctions against Iran between 2009 and 2014.
U.S. prosecutors said Meng publicly listed Skycom as a separate company from Huawei and misled banks about the relationship between the two companies.
Meng denies the accusations and will fight them with the law.
The Chinese government is furious over the treatment of Meng by the United States and Canada.
The Chinese embassy in Canada issued a statement saying Canada had arrested a Chinese national who it said “did not violate any U.S. or Canadian law.”
In addition, a former Canadian diplomat named Michael Kovrig was arrested by Chinese authorities.
Kovrig, who now works for the think tank International Crisis Group, served in Beijing and Hong Kong.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his party was seeking answers from the Chinese government regarding Kovrig’s detention.
A Canadian official said there was no correlation between Kovrig’s detention and Meng Wanzhou.
