Jakarta (ANTARA) – Canadian Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development Mary Ng will visit Indonesia from October 10 to 12 to improve economic relations in the Indo-Pacific region , the Canadian embassy in Jakarta said on Friday.
According to a statement from the Canadian Embassy, Minister Ng will hold meetings with Indonesian ASEAN government officials during his visit.
Additionally, Ng said he would hold meetings with Indonesian entrepreneurs, including women entrepreneurs, to advance bilateral trade relations between the two countries.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Indonesia and the 45th anniversary of partnership relations between Canada and ASEAN.
For this reason, the embassy said, Minister Ng will also discuss the progress of the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations and the Free Trade Agreement negotiations ( FTA) Canada-ASEAN.
At these meetings, Minister Ng will focus on advancing Canada's trade diversification strategy and economic resilience, while also advocating for strengthening the law-based international trading system.
Before heading to Indonesia, Ng will travel to Singapore on October 7 and 8 to attend the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) commission meeting.
Minister Ng will also be joined by other CPTPP partner countries, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
According to the Canadian Embassy, Minister Ng will continue to advance Canada's interests by diversifying trade with key markets around the world and supporting an efficient, open, inclusive and law-based global trading system.
Canada actively participates at all levels of the CPTPP to support the implementation and expansion of this agreement through the accession of new members, the embassy said.
