The Global Liveability Index is created annually by The Economist’s Economist Intelligence Unit, which rates cities based on more than 30 factors across five rating categories. Namely stability (security, political and economic), health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Expert analysts in evaluating cities according to these indicators with livability scores, in 173 cities around the world.

Without further ado, here is the list of the best places to live in the world in 2022:

1. Vienna, Austria

The capital and largest city of Austria, Vienna offers music, theater, wine, vibrant nightlife and a renowned café culture.

The city received a total score of 99.1 out of 100 and received perfect scores in the stability, health care, education and infrastructure categories.

2. Copenhagen, Denmark

Denmark’s capital and most populous city, Copenhagen combines modern architecture and history, lively restaurants and rich culture with numerous museums in the city center.

Copenhagen received an index of 98, with perfect scores in the stability, education and infrastructure categories.

3.Zurich, Switzerland

Zurich is a cosmopolitan city with museums, vibrant nightlife and a historic old town. The atmosphere becomes even more romantic with a boat trip along the Limmat River.

Zurich’s total index of 96.3 includes 100 points in the health care category and high rankings in culture and infrastructure.

4. Calgary, Canada

Calgary, the largest city in the Canadian province of Alberta, offers a diverse population, rich culture, vibrant nightlife, spectacular views and wonderful outdoor activities year-round.

Calgary’s city index of 96.3 includes perfect scores in the health care, education and infrastructure categories.

5. Vancouver, Canada

Located in British Columbia, Vancouver is a modern city with mountains, forests, sea and a world-class culinary scene.

A popular year-round vacation destination, Vancouver earned a livability index of 96.1, achieving perfect scores in the healthcare, education, culture and environment categories.

6. Geneva, Switzerland

The European headquarters of the United Nations is located in Geneva. It’s right on the shore of Lake Geneva, with the Rhone flowing through the city center.

The index for the city of Geneva is 95.9, including 100 points for health and 96.4 for infrastructure.

7. Frankfurt, Germany

The largest financial center in Europe, Frankfurt is located on the Main, a tributary of the Rhine, and borders the Frankfurt City Forest.

Frankfurt’s city index of 95.7 includes perfect scores for infrastructure and healthcare, and 96.3 for culture and environment.

8. Toronto Canada

Located in the province of Ontario, Toronto is Canada’s largest city, with a diverse population, a vibrant arts and food scene, and stunning skyline views.

The city scored a total agreement score of 95.4, with 100 points in the education and health care categories.

9. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is famous for its canals, museums, historic buildings and vibrant nightlife.

The city received an index of 97.2 for culture and environment and 100 for health, for a total index of 95.3.

10.Osaka, Japan

Osaka, one of Japan’s largest cities, is a major financial center, tourist destination, and cosmopolitan city known for its restaurants and festivals.

Osaka City’s index is 95.1, including a score of 100 in the education, health care and stability categories.

11. Melbourne, Australia

Located in southeastern Australia along the Yarra River, Melbourne is known for its beaches, arts and music, shopping and Aboriginal communities.

With an index of 95.1, the city scored 100 in the education and infrastructure category and 98.6 in the culture and environment category.
