The Masters field remains the smallest of the major golf tournaments. In 2024, he invited just 89 golfers to the hallowed grounds of Augusta National Golf Club to compete for the coveted green jacket.
Even fewer of these golfers will participate in the weekend.
Despite such a small field, the Masters has always included a cut in its tournament. It once had a somewhat more relaxed limit than its major championship counterparts, but a rule change in 2020 helped ensure its weekend crowds will remain small.
Here’s what you need to know about the Masters Cut rules and where the cut line is as the tournament prepares for its second day of play.

What is the cut line for the 2024 Masters?
The cut line for the Masters in 2024 is 6 over par. That’s three shots higher than the 3-over cut line in 2023.
Justin Thomas, Wyndham Clark, Jordan Spieth, Viktor Hovland and Dustin Johnson were all among the 29 players who will watch the final two rounds from home.
Clark’s cut at the Masters was particularly painful, as he missed an opportunity to stay in the field on the 18th hole, but was unable to convert his birdie attempt.
LIV Golf’s new star and 2023 Masters winner Jon Rahm escaped disaster and managed to stay in the field after two difficult rounds.

Masters Tournament Cutting Rules
Only the top 50 players (plus ties) qualify for the Masters. This rule was put into effect during the 2020 iteration of the event to keep the weekend field small.
Before the rule change, any player within 10 shots of the leader after 36 holes advanced to the weekend. This was in addition to the top 50 players on the field (plus ties).
The rule change firmly established that the Masters Cut is the most difficult of golf’s four majors. The top 60 players made it to the US Open, and the top 70 golfers made it to the PGA Championship and the Open Championship.
