NBA Basketball News: Andrew Wiggins will not play for Team Canada at the Paris Olympics later this summer because the Golden State Warriors have blocked his involvement, according to Doug Smith.
The Canadian national team’s training camp begins Friday. Exactly why the Warriors have taken such a hard line against the Canadian Olympic Committee is unclear.
Trade rumors involving Andrew Wiggins have been circulating for months. John Hollinger also said there was a medical issue, which Smith co-signed. Michael Grange later reported that although Wiggins was insured and medically cleared by Basketball Canada, the Warriors raised last-minute concerns about his ankle issues last season.
Wiggins was on the training camp roster but did not provide a commitment last month when asked if he would fly to Paris.
