RIAU24.COM – Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni was angry about the poor quality of the turf when his team beat Canada in the opening match of the 2024 Copa America.
Argentina won 2-0 against Canada in the first match of Group A of the Copa America 2024 at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the United States, Friday (21/6) morning WIB.
Lionel Messi and his friends won thanks to goals scored by Julian Alvarez in the 49th minute and Lautaro Martinez in the 89th minute.
Scaloni’s match expressed his anger because he was not satisfied with the quality of the stadium’s grass.
“We have to make a big effort [dalam pertandingan ini] and try to master the game. That’s what happened,” Scaloni said, quoted by RTL.
“But sometimes you can’t play the game the way you want. As I always say, there are times when the opponent doesn’t give you a chance. In this case it was the opponent and the pitch. We had to play in a different way, but the important thing is that we won,” Scaloni added.
According to Scaloni, the artificial turf used on the pitch is not suitable for big matches.
“Thank God we won, because otherwise it would be a cheap excuse to stand on the sidelines and say this [rumput yang buruk]. “But we knew we were going to play here seven months ago and they changed the grass surface two days ago,” Scaloni said.
“It’s not pretty to look at. Sorry, it’s not an excuse, but it’s not about the stadium either. This stadium is beautiful and with artificial turf it should be spectacular, but with today’s turf, honestly, it’s not good. Not suitable for players like this,” Scaloni added.
